Upbit, Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, is solidifying its reputation as a security leader in the digital asset industry through transparent cybersecurity disclosures and internationally recognized certifications.
The company recently announced that it has acquired four major ISO certifications issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), demonstrating its compliance with global standards:
-
ISO 27001 – Information Security Management
-
ISO 27017 – Cloud Security
-
ISO 27018 – Cloud Personal Data Protection
-
ISO 27701 – Personal Information Management System
Previously, Upbit voluntarily obtained Korea’s ISMS-P (Information Security Management System – Personal Information) certification in 2021. With these new certifications, the company has now expanded its compliance framework to global levels.
Most notably, Upbit is the only Korean crypto exchange that discloses its annual cybersecurity investment figures.
According to its 2023 report, it allocated approximately 9.2 billion KRW (about $6.7 million) to cybersecurity—roughly 10% of its total IT budget of 97.6 billion KRW. The company also maintains over 26 full-time security personnel.
This transparent disclosure sets Upbit apart in an industry often criticized for its opacity.
In addition, Upbit has secured the ISO 22301 certification, also known as the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), validating its capability to maintain operations during emergencies such as cyberattacks, natural disasters, or system failures.
This demonstrates a comprehensive and forward-looking approach to digital asset security, encompassing not only prevention but also disaster response and business resilience.
Upbit emphasized that cybersecurity is core to its technology leadership, stating, “We continue to enhance our Web3 security systems through strategic investments, talent development, and collaboration with external security experts.”
The company also operates a bug bounty program for white-hat hackers and stores the majority of customer assets in cold wallets, reducing exposure to online threats. Its security framework is shifting from passive defense to proactive threat mitigation.
As the crypto industry faces increasing risks of hacks and data breaches, Upbit’s transparency and internationally certified frameworks represent a new standard of trust.
Rather than being just a trading platform, Upbit is evolving into a regulated, security-compliant digital asset infrastructure.
