‘Klip’, a digital asset wallet compatible with KakaoTalk, attracted attention by reaching 100,000 users on the day of launch.
According to GroundX, Kakao’s blockchian technology subsidiary, Klip reached 100,000 users. This record was accomplished in 21 hours of launch.
Klip is a wallet service that stores and transfers cryptocurrencies, discount coupons, game items, and licenses in the form of a blockchain-based card.
Klip supports Klay (KLAY), BOX (BOX), BlockPet Token (BPT), Pibble (PIB), HINTchain (HINT), Ant Token (ATT), Temco (TEMCO), Beans (BNS), Piction Network (PXL), Insureum (ISR), Cosmochain (COSM), etc.
The only blockchain-based card is a ‘Welcome Card’, which is a membership confirmation, but Klip will soon support various cards through cooperation with partners. A blockchain-based card is based on non-fungible tokens (NFT) so that the holder has ownership and can transfer it.
GroundX chose the term ‘digital asset’ as a concept that includes both cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based cards.
■Klip contributes to the popularization of blockchain
Although digital assets are unfamiliar to average users the fact that Klip has reached 100,000 users has significant implications.
First, it is meaningful in that digital assets are newly emerged concept, but proved not to be an unfamiliar or incomprehensible thing.
The capacity of average users to accept digital assets is a key challenge in expanding the Klip ecosystem. If user capacity is secured, a virtuous cycle can be created, such as service providers outside the blockchain industry participating in providing various digital assets in the form of the cards.
In addition, Klip proved the possibility of becoming a catalyst to accelerate the popularization of blockchain.
Since 2017, when the blockchain industry began to develop, the popularization of blockchain has been the desire of the industry. Various blockchain services have been launched in the past 2-3 years, but they have not secured average users.
People expected that Klip will be installed on KakaoTalk and it will be the most familiar blockchain service with the public. Klip proved its potential on the first day of release.
Han Jae-sun, CEO of GroundX, said, “I was worried about unfamiliarity and negative images of digital assets. But I realized that the public is interested in digital assets and the market has been looking forward to this service.” “I feel a great responsibility for the industry,” he added.
