Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of a global cryptocurrency exchange platform, Binance, has spoken about the rumor that Binance is at the verge of establishing their Korea branch.
On Jul. 16, CEO Zhao said “I don’t know the details with regard to the Korea branch establishment. It is true that our team is working with a local partner there, but don’t know the details.” during an interview with Blockinpress.
In addition personnel from Binance’s global operation team explicitly denied the rumor. He said “It is not true. There is no plan to open an office in Korea.” Another personnel from Korean marketing team added, “We had a meeting with BXB(Blockchain fintech company) before, but nothing has been decided. The establishment(of the Korea branch) itself has not been decided.”
Some of the blockchain media have reported that a company named ‘Binance LLC’ has registered as a legal entity in Korea, and Kang, Jiho, co-representative of BXB, has become an executive of Binance LLC. The industry was talking about Binance’s preparation to enter the Korean market in accordance with the report.
On the other hand, there is still a chance that a domestic corporation has made illegal use of the name “Binance”. Choi, Yonghun, the representative of Binance Korea, which was established last year said, “Binance Korea is established based upon a joint agreement with Binane LLC last March.” However, CEO Zhao tweeted about it, saying “Recently established Binance Korea and Binance Pay have nothing to do with Binance LLC. If anyone sees this guy(Choi) please call the police to arrest him.”
