Klaytn, public blockchain, announced that it will release a virtual asset wallet called Klip on the 3rd, which is installed on Kakao’s messaging platform named KakaoTalk.
Klip is a virtual asset wallet that supports virtual assets based on Klaytn, a blockchain platform developed by Kakao’s blockchain subsidiary named GroundX. It will support its own virtual asset called Klay, Klaytn-based virtual assets, and non-fungible tokens (NFT).
Klay was scheduled to be launched last year, but due to delays in development, the release date was postponed to the first half of 2020. An official from a partner of Klaytn said, “Klip, a main service, is being developed by Klaytn, and linking pages with BApps and protocol development are in progress.” “Klip will be released on the 3rd unless something major comes up,” he added.
◆Virtual assets are close to 50 million KakaoTalk users
The advantage of Klip is that it has a platform called ‘KakaoTalk’. With the launch of Klip, it has solved the problem of ‘securing users’, which was the most difficult in the process of incorporating other virtual assets into the mainstream.

BApss partners that have transferred the mainnet to KCT include Piction Network (PXL), HINTchain (HINT), Pibble (PIB), Cosmochain (COSM), Airbloc (ABL), WITH (WIKEN), Temco (TEMCO), Isureum (ISR), REDi (REDI), SPIN Protocol (SPIN), and Hiblocks (HIBS).
However, it is difficult for BApp partners that have not transferred the mainnet to KCT to be listed on the Klip immediately. An official of BApp partner said, “The support schedule of Klip is unpredictable because the mainnet must be transferred to KCT before listing.” “They will be listed immediately like other virtual assets after the mainnet is transferred,” he added.
◆Deposit, withdrawal and storage of virtual assets are available in the initial stage…BApps will be linked with Klip in the future
Deposit, withdrawal and storage of virtual assets such as Klay and KCT will be possible at the early stage of Klip. If deposit and withdrawal of virtual assets is available, it will be possible to transfer virtual assets between the BApps and the virtual asset exchange and the Klip. ◆Will NFT be added to Klip?
Although Klip has no significant difference from existing virtual asset wallets, it has unique advantages. The NFT can be stored and transferred through Klip.
NFT has unique identifier and cannot be exchanged with other tokens. For example, the function of NFT is applied to game items issued on a blockchain. The game item of the user holding it cannot be duplicated, and it can be checked whether it is tampered with on the blockchain.
NFT can also be used for mobile employee ID cards, certifications, etc. KakaoCon, released last year by Kakao, is a NFT issued based on the Klaytn blockchain.
GroundX announced that it will apply various functions using NFT to Klip, and the wallet released this month is expected to include a function to store NFT. However, it is not clear whether it will interwork with KakaoCon.
