Daegu has officially entered the fray in attracting blockchain-related enterprises.
On the 19th, Daegu City held the opening ceremony for the ‘Daegu Blockchain Technology Innovation Support Center’ on the second floor of the Suseong Alpha City Smart City Center. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Kim Su-jung, the Director of Digital Society Planning at the Ministry of Science and ICT; Kwon Hyun-oh, the Head of the Digital Industry Division at the Korea Internet & Security Agency; and Ryu Dong-hyun, the Chief of the AI and Blockchain Division of Daegu Metropolitan City.
The establishment of the support center was initiated after being selected in May as the second regional government entity in a nationwide contest held by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency for the ‘Regional Blockchain Technology Innovation Support Center’ project. The center has been outfitted with various facilities to support blockchain enterprises, including dedicated office space, a testbed, an experience zone, collaborative spaces, and conference rooms. With the completion of the selection process for eight enterprises, the center is scheduled to host these companies within the year.
Daegu City plans to center its strategy around the support center to attract businesses from outside the region and to complete the blockchain industry value chain by 2030 through administrative and policy support. This includes the demonstration of blockchain-converged services, support for corporate growth, the activation of public-private networking, and connecting supply and demand companies, aiming to establish 100 blockchain companies.
Choi Woon-baek, Director of the Future Innovation Growth Office of Daegu City, stated, “We will continue to provide support for the Blockchain Technology Innovation Support Center to evolve as a hub for regional innovation growth, such as discovering converged services linked with local industries.”
